PTV employee honoured for his lifework: Dr.-Ing. Martin Fellendorf won the highest prize in the field of transportation planning and traffic engineering

Karlsruhe (Germany), 19th October 2004. The research society for road and traffic engineering awarded the Max-Erich-Feuchtinger/Bruno-Wehner prize to Dr.-Ing. Martin Fellendorf at this year's road and traffic congress in Berlin on 13th October 2004. This prize is given to Dr.-Ing. Fellendorf in recognition of his "excellent work in terms of research and application in the field of planning, creation and operation of roads in urban and rural areas".

Professor Wermuth, chairman of the board of trustees, especially emphasised Dr. Fellendorf's ability to transform theoretical knowledge into practical applications throughout
Germany and world-wide.

After graduating in industrial engineering, Martin Fellendorf continued his research work as a scientific assistant at the faculty of Traffic Engineering at the
University of Karlsruhe. In 1991 he gained his doctorate focussing on a "graph theoretical approach for co-ordinating the signalisation of junctions".

From 1991 to 1999 he was head of the Traffic Engineering department at PTV system. Since the foundation of PTV AG in 1999 he has been head of the Traffic and Transportation Management department. Martin Fellendorf is playing a decisive role in the development of innovative software for traffic engineering and transportation planning. Just to mention a few milestones: VISSIG for optimising signal control systems, VISSIM for simulating traffic flows, CROSSIG for generating and optimising signal programs, VISVAP for creating vehicle-actuated signal controls and VISUM-online for dynamic network assignment for traffic management centres. Dr. Martin Fellendorf is a man of great ability who has a proven record of accomplishment on numerous national and international projects. PTV AG is delighted that Dr. Fellendorf is being honoured for his outstanding achievements.

In 1970 the board of trustees of the Max-Erich-Feuchtinger/Bruno-Wehner-foundation established the biennal award to honour the professors Feuchtinger and Wehner who paved the way for transportation planning and traffic engineering in
Germany.
