Introduction

PTV organizes this event on April 19th and 20th 2007 to which you are invited. The User Group Meeting, which is part of a series of worldwide events advertised here, pertains mainly to the VISSIM microscopic traffic simulator and the VISUM strategic modeling software plus related tools (www.ptv-vision.com ). It will address state-of-the-art modelling work by the users, development plans by PTV and more specifically the latest new versions of the software. People with no previous experience would find it useful too.

The current page will be kept up-to-date with information on the event as the preparation progresses. To help tracking the changes, the most important ones will be tagged with the date in the format UPDATE-YYMMDD (YY=year; MM=month; DD=day). At the bottom of this web page there is the list of those major updates. It is possible to navigate to hyperlinks from this page and then use the ‘back’ button of your browser to come back. Alternatively, please click on the hyperlinks while pressing the button to open new web pages.

Training

Prior to the user group meeting parallel training classes will be offered on April 19th 2007. The number of participants per course will be 5 (minimum) and about 20 (maximum). Staff from PTV-Karlsruhe (Germany), PTV-UK and Faber Maunsell will run the courses, possibly with more than 1 trainer per session. Indicative topics for the training are:

  • VISSIM 4.2 ‘beginners’ (introduction) training: Basic network modeling, priorities, link-based flows, fixed time signals, public transport, evaluations (delays, queues, travel times, etc.).
  • VISSIM 4.2 ‘advanced’ training: Experts’ problems, emphasis on vehicle actuated signals (VAP/VISVAP), dynamic assignment, COM interface, public transport priority, link micro-macro, modeling suggestions, V3DM (to generate 3D models for VISSIM).
  • VISUM 9.5 ‘beginners’ (introduction) training: Network editing; introduction to various assignment methods, post-assignment analysis, basics of demand modeling (4-stage assignment), interface with VISSIM.
  • VISUM 9.5 ‘advanced 1’ training: link to GIS, interface with VISSIM, basic junction modelling, demand modelling and OD estimation, public transport operations and timetables.
  • VISUM 9.5 ‘advanced 2’ training: Introduction to Python, Python and VISUM, Questions&Answers session.
  • Participants will need to bring their own laptops (with administration rights in order to be able to install the software), although no VISSIM/VISUM licence is required. Basic specifications for the computers can be found here  (search ID #10).

At this stage we plan to have all 5 courses. If you cannot book your chosen course because the entry in the book form is not available anymore, please don't hesitate to contact us anyway as often places can free up before the event.

To cover costs, the charge is £ 180 for the Training (£ 120 for students, including PHDs). Bookings will be made on a first-come-first-served basis.

    User Group Meeting

The 7th UK PTV Vision User Group Meeting will be held at Imperial College London on April 20th 2007. UPDATE-070327: A new draft programme is available here. Abstracts of the presentations will follow soon.
Should you wish to access presentation outlines etc. from previous years, they are reachable from the links at the top of this page.

We calculate that to cover the costs of the User Group Meeting, which include lunch, refreshments and documentation, a fee of £ 180 will be required (£ 100 for students/PHDs and presenters, first author). The maximum number of participants is set to 100.

How to become a presenter at the UK PTV Vision User Group Meeting

Presentations are invited from a variety of working backgrounds, be they consultancies, public sector or University. If you have applied VISSIM or VISUM (or tools linked to those) to any problem that could be of interest to other participants, please get in touch.

We will need to have a title accompanied by an abstract of 200-300 words by March 9th 2007. Presenters should then submit their papers and/or handout slides by March 30th.

The compliance with these deadlines will enable us to prepare the documentation to be circulated at the User Group Meeting well in advance (papers and/or handout slides not received on time might not be part of the proceedings and/or excluded from the programme). Presentations will last 15-25 minutes, with some time for questions at the end.

    Social event

A social event is organized on the evening of April 19th in London. There is an entry for it in the booking form. Please let us know if you wish to participate. We ask those attending to register because we need to secure the place. We expect to pay in the range of 25-30 pounds.

UPDATE-070316: For the social event this year we have chosen "Spacca Napoli" (101 Dean Street, London, W1D 3TG; Telephone: 0871 0757853; map; closest tube station: Tottenham Court Road; some reviews). The meeting will be at the restaurant at 19:45.
