Introduction

PTV organizes this event to which you are invited. It pertains mainly the VISSIM microscopic simulator, a description of which can be found on www.vissim.de. To know more about other software accompanying VISSIM, please visit www.ptv-vision.com.

The current page should contain all the information regarding the User Group Meeting and it will be updated as the preparation progresses. The most important changes to this page will be tagged with the date in the format UPDATE-YYMMDD (YY=year; MM=month; DD=day). At the bottom of this web page (accessible here) there is the list of major updates. It is possible to navigate to hyperlinks from this page and then use the ‘back’ button of your browser to come back. Alternatively, please click on the hyperlinks while pressing the <shift> button to open new web pages.

Training (June 16th 2004) programme

Prior to the user group meeting parallel training classes will be offered. The number of participants per course will be 5 (minimum) and 20 (maximum). Booking will be done on a first come first served basis. Courses will be run on the following:

a)     VISSIMbeginners’ training: basic network modeling, priorities, link-based flows, fixed time signals, public transport, evaluations (delays, queues, travel times, etc.). Trainers: Sergio Grosso, PTV UK and Andy McGregor, Faber Maunsell.

b)     VISSIMadvanced’ training: “experts’ problems, emphasis on signals and dynamic assignment, modeling suggestions, V3DM (program to generate 3D models for VISSIM). Trainer: Sven Beller, PTV Karlsruhe. UPDATE-040604: The course is FULL.

c)      VISUM 9.0 training: Introduction to this versatile software for transport planning, encompassing private and public transport; dynamic assignment, and junction modeling. more on VISUM can be found by clicking here. Trainer: Dr Martin Fellendorf, PTV Karlsruhe.

UPDATE-040604: Confirmed that the training will include VISSIM beginners and VISSIM advanced, and VISUM.

Staff from PTV-Karlsruhe (Germany), PTV-UK and Faber Maunsell will run the courses, possibly with more than 1 trainer per session.

Participants will need to bring their own laptops (basic specifications can be found here), though no VISSIM/VISUM licence is required. Again to cover costs, we will charge £ 160 for the Training (£ 100 for students, including PHDs).

User Group Meeting (June 17th 2004) programme

The 4th UK VISSIM User Group Meeting will be held at the Life Conference Centre in Newcastle on June 17th 2004. The programme will be finalized after receiving the titles plus abstracts from presenters and it will be published here. By clicking on the following links it is possible to access the programmes from previous years for reference: UGM1, UGM2 and UGM3. This year we will put an emphasis on microscopic simulation and 3D for public involvement and bridging strategic and microscopic modeling. UPDATE-040615: The leaflet of the event is available here. UPDATE-040520: The programme is available here. UPDATE-040521: An outline of the presentations is available here. The presentations are available here (password protected – please ask to access).

We calculate that to cover the costs of the User Group Meeting, which include lunch, refreshments and documentation, a fee of £ 160 will be required (£ 80 for students and presenters).

How to become a presenter at the VISSIM User Group Meeting

Presentations are invited from a variety of working backgrounds, being they consultancies, public sector or University. Bearing in mind that this year applications of VISSIM with an emphasis on 3D visualization for public enquiries are very much in demand, if you have applied VISSIM (but, also, VISUM applications are welcome) to any problem that could be of interest to other participants, please get in touch. We will need to have a title accompanied by an abstract of 200-300 words by May 14th 2004. Presenters should then submit their papers and/or handout slides by May 31st The compliance with these deadlines will enable us to prepare the documentation to be circulated at the User Group Meeting well in advance. Presentations will last 15-25 minutes, with some time for questions at the end.

Social event

A social event is organized on the evening of June 16th in Newcastle. UPDATE-040615: Meeting point is in front of the rail station in Newcastle at 19:30. Japanese restaurant Fujiyama (35-39 Bath Lane, Newcastle – map is here) booked for 20:00. Please let us know if you wish to take part.

How to book a place (User Group Meeting and/or Training)

To register for either of the two events or both, please fill in and return to us the excel proforma, which can be found by clicking here (there is only one registration form with two entries, one for the User Group Meeting and one for the Training). Special requirements such as, for example, ‘vegetarian meal’ or ‘allergy to nuts’, should be noted in the proforma, please. We can fax/email it to you on request. A fee of £ 160 will be charged for each of the events (for students/PHDs the fee is £ 80 for the User Group meeting and £ 100 for the Training). Presenters will pay a reduced fee of £ 80 for the User Group Meeting. Rather than invoicing after the event like last year, this year the payment should be done by cheque (payable to ‘PTV AG’, to the UK address as in the Contacts section) or bank transfer, please. UPDATE-040604: The deadline for the registration has been extended to June 8th. As the demand might be higher than the capacity of the rooms allocated, in particular for the Training, bookings will be prioritized according to their earliness.
