Introduction

PTV together with Faber Maunsell organizes this event to which you are invited. If you haven’t heard about the microscopic simulator VISSIM before, a description of the program can be found by clicking here. This programme will undergo (small) changes as the preparation progresses. The most important are tagged with the date in the format UPDATE-YYMMDD (YY=year; MM=month; DD=day). So they can easily be searched for by using the ‘edit’->’find’ button of your browser.

User Group Meeting (April 16th 2003) programme

The 3rd UK VISSIM User Group Meeting will be held at Imperial College London on 16th April 2003.

(UPDATE-030414) The leaflet of the User Group Meeting can be accessed here.

An outline of the programme can accessed by clicking here.

A description of the presentations can be found here.

We calculate that to cover the costs of the User Group Meeting, which include lunch, refreshments and documentation, a fee of £ 125 will be required (£ 100 for academic institutions). Presenters will pay a reduced fee of £ 60.

How to become a presenter at the VISSIM User Group Meeting

Presentations are invited from a variety of working backgrounds, being they consultancies, public sector or University. If you have applied VISSIM (but, also, VISUM applications could be included) to a problem that could be of interest to other participants, you are very welcome to apply by sending a title to info@ptv-newcastle.co.uk, accompanied by an abstract of 200-300 words by March 10th. Participants should then submit their papers and/or handout slides by April 4th. The compliance with these deadlines will enable us to prepare the documentation to be circulated at the User Group Meeting well in advance. Presentations will last 15-25 minutes, with some time for questions at the end.

Training (April 15th 2003) programme

The user community has choosen the following:

a)     VISSIMbeginners’ training: basic network modeling, priorities, link-based flows, fixed time signals, public transport, evaluations (delays, queues, travel times, etc.);

b)     VISSIMadvanced’ training: “experts’ problems, emphasis on signals and dynamic assignment, modeling suggestions, V3DM (program to generate 3D models for VISSIM);

c)      VISUM training: Introduction to this versatile software for transport planning, encompassing private and public transport; more on VISUM can be found by clicking here;

Staff from PTV-Karlsruhe (Germany), PTV-UK and Faber Maunsell will run the courses. As things stand now (UPDATE-030409) there will be two trainers for ‘VISSIM beginners’ (Sergio Grosso, PTV UK and Andy McGregor, Faber Maunsell) and one each for ‘VISSIM advanced’ (Sven Beller, PTV Karlsruhe) and VISUM (Dr. Martin Fellendorf, PTV Karlsruhe). Please let us know your preference and/or register even before the deadline of April 11th as from your choice will depend what courses we run.

Participants will need to bring their own laptops (UPDATE-030409 basic specifications can be found here), though no VISSIM/VISUM licence is required. Again to cover costs, we will charge £ 125 for the Training (£ 100 for academic institutions).

Social event

A social event might be organized on the evening of April 15th in London.

Please let us know if you wish to take part.

How to book a place (User Group Meeting and/or Training)

To register for either of the two events or both, please let us have your name, organisation, business address, phone and email. If you wish, you can register by filling in and returning the excel proforma, which can be found by clicking here (there is only one registration form with two entries, one for the User Group Meeting and one for the Training). We can fax/email it to you on request. A fee of £ 125 will be charged for each of the events (£ 100 for academic institutions). Presenters will pay a reduced fee of £ 60 for the User Group Meeting. PTV will invoice participants for this amount after the event. The deadline for the registration is April 11th. As the demand might be higher than the capacity of the rooms allocated, in particular for the Training, bookings will be prioritized according to their earliness.
